Profile

I am an Associate Professor in Diagnostic Radiography,  leading on Scholarship and Research and Deputy Head of the Specilaist Science Eucation Deprtment (SSED). I originally practised as a diagnostic radiographer in a range of roles before moving into Higher Education where i have been integral to the development of a range undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I completed my PhD at the University of Brighton in 2018 which was entitled ‘Being and Becoming a Diagnostic Radiographer. My doctorate explored the transition of newly qualified radiographers in their first 12 months following graduation.  I pride myself on being an advocate for students, and my primary passion is to improve the experience of both students and patients.

I am actively looking for the opportunity to supervise doctoral students exploring healthcare, radiography, teaching and learning and coaching predominantly utilising qualitative methodologies. My research experience is qualitative focussed, with a specific expertise in Interpretive Phenomenology. I have experience using a range of qualitative methods, including interviews, focus groups and theme boarding. I am very interested in the use of creative methods to collect and present qualitative data.

Student education

I have experience in teaching and assessing across a range of radiography and other health professional undergraduate and postgraduate courses.  My main teaching areas are paediatric imaging, enhanced communication and interpersonal skills, personal and professional development, reflective practice, resilience, emotional intelligence, teaching and learning, research methods and coaching. I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, a Diploma in Life Coaching, a Certificate in Higher Education in Person-Centred Counselling and am currently a Senior Teaching Fellow with Advance HE. I am fully committed to research-led teaching and use my skills and experience to enthuse and motivate the next generation of radiographers and health profressionals.
